woman_writing2.gifThe creative writing component of the HSC exam should also reflect an extensive knowledge of Romanticism, set texts and independent research in original, imaginative responses to the question. Prepared answers rarely have the sophistication or relevancy required for Extension 1.

At this point, I'd like to share some timely advice for the creative writing component of the Extension 1 course
1) Do use elements of your set texts and related texts as inspiration - but don't try to rewrite them - you don't live in the 19th Century ( Nor are you an Opium addicted Dead white male or a disenfranchised woman)
2) Do think about what makes the Romantic Romantic and think about the ways of thinking typical of the time. - how can you as a twenty first Century student incorporate these philosophies without parodying or trivialising them?
3) think about HOW Romantic ways of thinking might permeate writing today? Read widely and see if you can spot the links.
4) NO, you did not wake up and find it was all a dream ( or a Goya-esqe nightmare)
